Splatoon 3’s next season looks super chill, with new maps, weapons, and highly anticipated features

After a big win from Big Man in the Splatoon 3 Pokémon-themed Splatfest, Nintendo has announced some big plans for its big shooter. The second season of Splatoon 3, named Chill Season 2022, is starting just a few weeks from now, dropping new content and a number of features that veteran players have been asking for since its September launch. Sea of Thieves puts the focus on Merrick in its next Adventure, The Forsaken Hunter

If you’ve had any emotional investment in the running lore and story of the Sea of Thieves world, these limited-time Adventures may have been a roller coaster. Days after the monumental announcement of Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, CEO Bobby Kotick addressed company employees for a Thursday morning Zoom webinar “fireside chat.” According to a transcript of the conversation provided to Gamepur, Kotick answered what he claimed were the most frequently asked questions submitted by employees. The Zoom call did not have a live chat for employees, and only Kotick and CPO Julie Hodges were on-screen; an anonymous Activision Blizzard employee noted to Gamepur a “pre-recorded” feel to the conversation.

The ongoing Activision Blizzard saga centering around a hostile and unhealthy workplace has gone all the way to the top. Weeks after taking a pay cut following multiple lawsuits and accusations regarding sexual harassment and other related controversies within Activision Blizzard, CEO Bobby Kotick became the subject of a scathing Wall Street Journal report. According to the story, Kotick was not only aware of various cases of sexual harassment within the company throughout the past several years, but the executive also ignored cases and sometimes defended accused employees.

Splitgate Season 0 starts today, coming with a new map, full Battle Pass, and Infected mode

Developer 1047 Games finally revealed its big Gamescom announcement, revealing that “Season 0” of Splitgate starts today. The Halo-meets-Portal arena shooter now has a 100-tier Battle Pass, as opposed to the much smaller pass that came with the open beta’s start. The season update also comes with a new map called Karman Station, along with a game mode that will be familiar to Halo fans.

Sea of Thieves mid-season update fixes enemy spawn rates, adds Davy Jones cosmetics

Roughly halfway through Season 3 of Sea of Thieves, developer Rare is celebrating the game’s playerbase growth from the A Pirate’s Life expansion, while also pushing out update 2.2.1. This patch adds quality of life improvements, with a few changes in particular addressing a much-complained issue of enemy respawn rates. With the introduction of three new mob enemy types, players were overrun with enemies during island encounters — luckily, this will no longer be the case.

Players of EA’s cash cow Apex Legends have been fiddling around with all of the new changes and additions coming with Season 10, titled Emergence. Any new playable Legend is bound to be extremely popular during the first week of a season, but new recon Legend Seer has been particularly popular — and quite controversial at the moment from a gameplay perspective. Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther – War for Wakanda expansion will release on August 17

Square Enix confirmed through a press release today that Marvel’s Avengers will be getting its biggest expansion very soon. War for Wakanda, featuring popular superhero Black Panther, will launch on August 17, giving the Crystal Dynamics-developed online title some much-needed stimulus. In the past week, news of a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard accusing the company of a “frat boy” culture allowing harassment, inequality, and other forms of abuse in the workplace has rocked the games industry. Former and current employees of the conglomerate openly criticized the management response to the lawsuit, which came from the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and are now planning a walkout and strike outside Blizzard’s campus on Wednesday.

Splitgate full release gets August delay to accommodate growing playerbase

After making a splash across digital gaming storefronts, Splitgate is shifting its release plans around. The first-person shooter combines Halo 2 and 3 arena gameplay with mechanics from Valve’s Portal for some old-school action, and developer 1047 Games is trying to keep up with the high demand from players. Servers for the crossplay open beta have been overloaded, and although the game will return to a playable state on Tuesday, Splitgate won’t be exactly “out” by then.

Marvel's Avengers is finally adding Omega-Level Threat raids and multiplayer Mega Hives on July 27

The long-promised Omega-Level Threat mission type is finally coming to Marvel’s Avengers, and it will give players a significant challenge. These Omega-Level Threats are analogous to raids in other similar online multiplayer titles, so get ready for some lengthy and grueling combat sequences. Metroid Dread producer promises "future episodes" after the main five-part saga concludes

Nintendo framed Metroid Dread as “Metroid 5” when revealing it at E3 2021, which left a number of implications. Producer Yoshio Sakamoto has framed it as the “final chapter” depicting Samus Aran and her relationship with the Metroid creatures, succeeding the original NES Metroid, Game Boy sequel Metroid II: Return of Samus, SNES classic Super Metroid, and the 2002 GBA title Metroid Fusion. Marvel's Avengers reshuffles roadmap, will allow multiple of the same Hero permanently

Developer Crystal Dynamics so far has made good on its promise to release new content for Marvel’s Avengers every month, all laid out on a road map. However, the studio today announced some slight modifications to their plan. In summary, the Patrol Mode planned for July will instead come after the War for Wakanda Expansion, but there will still be plenty of content to come during that month.
